Potomac River Challenge
Today we are setting out on the first leg of our row down the Potomac River to the Chesapeake Bay. We will be following the same course as the Potomac Challenge Adventure you can row using your Concept2 rower indoors, at vikingrows.com. We have been dreaming about rowing this route for years, so we are really excited to get the opportunity to do so this year.
We recently put the boat in the water at Pohick Bay to make sure she would at least float and not leak - she passed the test with flying colors. Today will be the next big test as we attempt a ~6 mile row from Gravelly Point Park, in Arlington, VA, to Belle Haven Marina, just south of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. This will be a nice one-day test of our rowing configuration and other on-board systems allowing us a bit of time in the evening to correct whatever issues we find.
Tomorrow we will conduct another short row followed by several days of row-camping on down the river to the Chesapeake Bay and hopefully out to Tangier Island and back as well.
